When many people read the title of this post I’m sure they’re thinking about the dish soap, but that’s not what this post is about! I’m actually talking about Asynchronous JavaScript And XML, which is a way to dynamically update a web page or document from the server without having to reload the whole page.
For the last few months I have been using some of my free time to rewrite the code for this page to make it cleaner and YES make it work in Internet Explorer. I decided to use AJAX to load the data into the page to avoid the flickering and choppiness that the page experiences now. One of the major problems with using AJAX to replace normal methods of getting new data into the page like frames is that scripts that are in the page being loaded are not triggered. I have put together a package of scripts that enables AJAX pages to function almost exactly like a frame without having to use a frame. Any document on the local server can be loaded into any element with an ID. There are no special onclick scripts needed in the anchor tags. All you need to do to get the document load in the correct element is put the ID of that element in the target field of the anchor tag just as you would with a frame. I chose to have the target refer the element ID rather than name for two reasons: IDs are easier to use with Wordpress and for backwards compatibility with frames. That way if a page has a frame it will still function normally.
Hopefully I will be done some time soon but my free time is rather limited now so we will see.

People may have noticed that I haven’t made a post in a month. It’s because I don’t have easy access to the internet right now. Hopefully I will be rectifing the situation soon.
On a side note I noticed I’m getting lots of hits from people searching on my name from the UK all of a sudden. Can anyway leave a comment and tell me why this is?!

I saw a wild Bald Eagle today, a first for me. I have seen them in zoos before but never in the wild. Lucky for me it hung around long enough for me to get my camera and take a picture. Here is the picture, it’s cropped and the detail has been enhanced. I’ve added a larger version of the same image in the pictures->animals section with less cropped.
